Car Accidents in Nebraska
Nebraska sees thousands of motor vehicle crashes each year. According to the Nebraska Department of Transportation, over 35,000 traffic accidents were reported statewide in 2023 alone. These incidents resulted in nearly 15,000 injuries and more than 200 fatalities. Most crashes happen in urban areas during daylight hours and are commonly linked to distracted driving, speeding, or failure to yield.
In light of this accident, it’s worth highlighting a few of the most frequent injuries that result from car crashes:
Whiplash and Soft Tissue Injuries: These injuries are especially common in rear-end crashes. Whiplash can cause lasting neck and shoulder pain, sometimes requiring physical therapy or long-term care. Even minor crashes can lead to muscle sprains and strains that disrupt daily routines.
Broken Bones: Fractures in the arms, legs, ribs, and collarbone are often sustained during collisions. Some breaks may be simple and heal with casting, while others might require surgery and extended recovery time.
Head Injuries: From concussions to traumatic brain injuries, head trauma is among the most serious outcomes of car accidents. Even with safety features like airbags, victims can hit their heads against steering wheels or windows.
Back and Spinal Injuries: Injuries to the spine or lower back can result in chronic pain, limited mobility, or in the most severe cases, paralysis. These types of injuries may not always be immediately noticeable and can worsen if not treated quickly.
