Adam Johnson, one of the firm’s personal injury attorneys who primarily handles car accidents, slip & fall, and medical malpractice cases, was the lead defense attorney in a felony criminal trial in Douglas County District Court that ended on April 1, 2021, with a unanimous acquittal returned by a twelve-person jury. This was Johnson’s first ever criminal trial and one in which he had spent considerable time, resources, and emotional investment.
While Johnson doesn’t practice criminal law, after reviewing the facts of the case he felt compelled to try and help. The case was essentially a non-violent domestic disturbance that resulted in charges that could have put the husband in prison for up to three years. Throughout this process, which lasted almost two years, the husband has had pending criminal charges and has not been able to see his child – a child for which he was the primary daily caretaker for more than a year.
