Madison Co, NE (January 27, 2025) – A two-car crash occurred on Sunday, January 26, in Madison County, claiming the life of a Norfolk woman. The incident happened just north of Madison Road, along Highway 81, as confirmed by the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.
According to officials, an eastbound car driven by 72-year-old Merridy Tomasek pulled out onto the highway when it was hit by a northbound van. The force of the collision caused the van to veer off the highway and into a nearby field. Emergency services, including the Madison County Fire Department and paramedics, responded promptly. Tomasek was trapped in her car and required extraction using the jaws of life.
Despite the efforts of first responders, Tomasek succumbed to her injuries shortly after being transported to a Norfolk hospital. The driver of the van was also taken to a local hospital, where they were treated for injuries and later released. Authorities temporarily closed the affected section of Highway 81 to manage traffic and ensure safety while they conducted their investigation.
