Jackson, NE (December 28, 2024) – A fatal car crash occurred Friday evening near the 1300 block of Hwy 20, approximately two miles west of Jackson. The collision resulted in the deaths of two individuals and left two others injured, authorities confirmed.
According to the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office, a Nissan Maxima traveling west collided with an eastbound GMC Sierra pickup under foggy conditions. The crash occurred around 7:30 p.m., with both vehicles sustaining significant damage. Emergency responders, including local firefighters, worked to extricate the victims from the wreckage.
The driver of the Nissan Maxima, identified as 68-year-old David Podany of Allen, NE, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the GMC Sierra pickup, 26-year-old Christopher Wedmore from Lawton, IA, also succumbed to his injuries.
Passengers in the GMC Sierra, a 26-year-old female and a 3-year-old child, were transported by ambulance to MercyOne Siouxland Medical Center. Both were listed in stable condition as of Saturday morning.
Traffic in the area was rerouted for several hours as authorities cleared the scene and conducted their investigation. The Dakota County Sheriff’s Office is working to determine the exact cause of the crash, though reduced visibility due to dense fog is believed to have played a significant role.
Our hearts go out to the families and friends of David Podany and Christopher Wedmore during this difficult time. The loss of loved ones in such tragic circumstances is unimaginable, and we extend our deepest sympathies to all those affected by this heartbreaking event.
