Dundy County, NE (July 18, 2024) – A fatal crash occurred on Tuesday afternoon in Dundy County, claiming the life of a Casper resident. The incident, reported by the Dundy County Sheriff’s Office, occurred at approximately 2:45 p.m. on US Hwy 34 near the Colorado and Kansas borders.
According to the Dundy County Sheriff’s Office, a semi-truck driven by Matthew Drinkwalter attempted to cross the tracks and collided with a BNSF locomotive. The collision caused the semi to overturn, ejecting both occupants. The passenger, identified as 61-year-old Steven Drinkwalter of Casper, was pronounced deceased at Wray Colorado Hospital. The driver, 46-year-old Matthew Drinkwalter of Midwest, Wyoming, was flown to another hospital for further care.
Those reported no injuries or fatalities on the train. The Dundy County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the incident.
