Furnas Co, NE (January 26, 2025) – A fatal two-car crash occurred on Friday, January 24, in Furnas County, resulting in the death of one individual. The Furnas County Sheriff’s Office reported the collision at approximately 3:58 p.m. about half a mile south of Arapahoe Golf Course on Highway 283.

According to the Furnas County Sheriff’s Office, a northbound car driven by 51-year-old Christopher M. Herrick of Arapahoe collided with a southbound semi-truck. The semi-truck driver attempted to swerve but was unable to avoid the collision.

Both drivers were transported by ambulance to Tri-Valley Health Systems in Cambridge. Herrick was pronounced dead at the hospital, while the semi-truck driver was treated for minor injuries and released. Emergency responders, including Furnas County Deputies, HEA Fire and Rescue, and Arapahoe Ambulance, managed traffic, extricated the vehicles, and secured the scene. A toxicology report is pending, and the investigation remains ongoing.
