Grand Island, NE (December 26, 2024) – A tragic two-car crash occurred on Wednesday morning at the intersection of S Blaine St and W Lamar Ave, claiming the life of a young driver. The Grand Island Police Department confirmed the incident, reported at approximately 9:15 a.m.
According to authorities, 19-year-old Thomas Villa-Estrada was driving a Dodge Charger northbound on S Blaine St when it collided with a Nissan Altima. The Altima, driven by 67-year-old Pedro Chavez Rodriguez, turned onto Blaine St when the cars impacted. The force of the crash caused Villa-Estrada’s car to travel over 250 feet, eventually striking a tree in the front yard of a nearby home.
Emergency responders, including paramedics and firefighters, arrived promptly at the scene. Villa-Estrada was pronounced dead and transported to a local hospital. Chavez Rodriguez sustained injuries and was also taken to the hospital for treatment. Firefighters assisted with extracting the drivers from their cars while police managed traffic in the area and investigated the crash.
