Lincoln, NE (January 11, 2025) – An injury car crash occurred on January 10 near the intersection of 27th Street and W Street in Lincoln, involving a police officer and a 36-year-old man. The incident, which took place around 10:30 p.m., was reported by the Lincoln Police Department.
According to the department, the officer was responding to assist another officer while driving southbound on N 27th St with lights and sirens activated. A red sedan, traveling eastbound on W Street, proceeded into the intersection, where the cars collided.
An off-duty officer who was near the scene heard the crash and immediately responded before hearing it on his radio. He arrived to assist the injured parties, helping the driver of the sedan while the on-duty officer provided aid. Both the officer and the driver of the sedan sustained injuries. The driver was transported to a nearby hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, while the officer was also taken to the hospital for medical evaluation.
The Lincoln Fire Department assisted with the extraction of the vehicles and helped control traffic in the area to ensure the safety of first responders and bystanders. Emergency medical services (EMS) quickly arrived and transported the injured parties to the hospital. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash.
