Merrick Co, NE - Logan Hoyt Killed in Fatal Crash at HWY 30 & 35th Rd

Merrick Co, NE (October 31, 2024) – A fatal car crash occurred on Tuesday afternoon, resulting in the death of a Cuming County man following a two-car collision near Silver Creek. The incident, reported by the Merrick County Sheriff’s Office, took place around 4:42 p.m. at the intersection of HWY 30 and 35th Rd.

According to the preliminary investigation, a farm vehicle loaded with grain was traveling east on HWY 30. It had come to a stop with its turn signal activated, waiting for oncoming westbound traffic to clear so the driver could make a left-hand turn onto 35th Rd. At that moment, a 2022 Toyota Camry, also heading east, collided with the rear of the stopped farm vehicle. The driver of the farm vehicle, identified as David Baker, 43, was unharmed but was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Unfortunately, the driver of the Camry, Logan Hoyt, 33, was critically injured and transported to Columbus Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Hoyt was wearing his seatbelt, and airbags in his car were deployed upon impact.

Emergency responders, including the Nebraska State Patrol, Platte County Sheriff’s Office, and Silver Creek Fire and Rescue, arrived quickly to manage the scene, control traffic, and assist with vehicle extraction. They worked diligently to ensure the safety of all involved and to clear the roadway. Preliminary reports indicate that drugs and alcohol are not suspected to be factors in the crash, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family and friends of Logan Hoyt during this difficult time.
