Otoe County, NE (July 13, 2024) – A fatal car crash occurred early Friday morning in Otoe County, resulting in the deaths of two men and injuring a 13-year-old boy. The Otoe County Sheriff’s Office reported the incident around 6:00 a.m. on Highway 2, west of the Highway 67 intersection near Dunbar.
According to authorities, 44-year-old Tommy Aldana of Nebraska City was driving east on Highway 2 when his Ford Explorer crossed the median and collided with a westbound Toyota Sienna driven by 65-year-old Daniel Rys of Gary, IN. Daniel Rys succumbed to his injuries at the scene, while Tommy Aldana was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital in Nebraska City, where he later passed away.
A 13-year-old boy, a passenger in Aldana’s vehicle, was also taken to St. Mary’s Hospital for treatment of undisclosed injuries.
Westbound traffic on Highway 2 was temporarily closed as emergency crews responded to the scene and conducted their investigation.
The Otoe County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation into the crash, with assistance from the Nebraska State Patrol for crash reconstruction.
