According to the Stanton County Sheriff’s Office, a van contracted as a rural mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, collided with a semi-truck while both traveled eastbound. The impact caused the van to overturn and roll off the highway. The van’s driver was ejected from the vehicle and airlifted by LifeNet to UNMC in Omaha for emergency treatment. The semi-truck driver declined medical attention at the scene.
Sheriff Mike Unger stated that emergency responders, including local firefighters, worked to extract the vehicles and recover the scattered mail. The highway was temporarily closed to facilitate cleanup and investigation, with deputies managing traffic in the area. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
