Waterloo, NE (May 16, 2025) – Late Wednesday night, May 14, emergency crews were dispatched to the scene of a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of 264th St and West Dodge Rd in Waterloo. Authorities were called to the area around 10:26 p.m. for reports of a T-bone collision involving two vehicles and multiple patients.
Initial reports suggested victims were pinned, prompting a dual rescue response from both Waterloo and Valley Fire and Rescue units. However, upon arrival, responders confirmed that no occupants were trapped. One individual at the scene declined both medical treatment and transport.
Emergency personnel transported two injured individuals to CHI Health Bergan Mercy with Code 3 trauma alerts. One of the victims, a male in his twenties, was fully conscious with a reported GCS of 15 following the crash. The second injured party, a pregnant woman also in her twenties who was wearing a seatbelt at the time, was likewise transported with Code 3 priority.
The crash reportedly involved significant vehicle damage, and the intersection was temporarily impacted while responders worked. The full cause of the accident remains under investigation.
We hope those injured in this accident recover quickly.
Car Accidents in Nebraska
Each year, thousands of people across Nebraska are injured in vehicle collisions. According to the Nebraska Department of Transportation, over 20,000 injury crashes are reported annually across the state. These incidents can lead to life-altering injuries and sudden medical expenses, especially when trauma alerts or hospital transfers are involved.
When serious injuries happen, it’s important to understand the types of long-term effects victims might face. Here’s a breakdown of common injuries associated with T-bone collisions like the one in Waterloo:
Whiplash and Neck Injuries: A side-impact crash can violently jolt the neck sideways, often leading to soft tissue strain or disc issues. These injuries might not present immediately but can cause pain or mobility limitations for weeks or even months.
Pelvic and Hip Fractures: The side force from a T-bone crash can cause significant impact near the lower torso, especially on the side that absorbs the hit. For pregnant women or passengers in the impacted side, this can be even more serious.
Abdominal Trauma: Seatbelt tension during side impacts can lead to internal bruising or organ damage. Though life-saving, belts can sometimes press hard against the body during a crash, leading to injuries that aren’t always visible right away.
Head Injuries: Even when airbags deploy, the head may strike the window or side structure. Concussions or lacerations are common in these types of crashes and often need immediate medical evaluation.
Complicated Pregnancies: For pregnant passengers, any trauma—even minor—can affect the health of both the mother and unborn child. Immediate monitoring and trauma transport are vital in these cases.
