Kearney, NE – Serious Injury Car Crash on 30th Ave OPAS

Kearney, NE (December 12, 2024) – A serious injury car crash occurred on Thursday evening on the 30th Avenue overpass in Kearney, resulting in significant traffic disruptions and multiple injuries. The Kearney Police Department (KPD) responded to the scene shortly after 7:30 p.m., with the overpass closed in both directions as authorities investigated and worked to clear the wreckage.

According to Sgt. Brad Newell of the KPD, the preliminary investigation indicates that a southbound car, traveling on icy road conditions, lost control and veered across the center line. The car collided with a northbound car driven by a 31-year-old woman and carrying an infant passenger. Fortunately, the infant was unharmed and properly secured in a child safety seat. The female driver suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local Kearney hospital by ambulance.

The southbound vehicle, driven by an 18-year-old man, sustained severe damage, and the driver was also seriously injured. He was rushed to the hospital for medical treatment.

First responders, including Kearney Fire Department personnel, were crucial in safely extricating the injured from their vehicles. Emergency medical teams quickly arrived and transported all victims to Kearney Regional Medical Center. The KPD and other authorities managed traffic in the area while they worked to clear the scene and investigate the crash.

Our condolences go out to all those affected by this tragic incident.
