Madison County, NE - Norfolk Man Airlifted After Car Crash on Hwy 81 and 846 Rd

Madison County, NE (July 20, 2024) – A serious car crash occurred on Friday evening in Madison County, resulting in significant injuries to two individuals. The incident, reported by the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, took place at approximately 7:30 p.m. at the intersection of Hwy 81 and 846 Rd, near the Madison-Pierce county line.

According to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, a red Ford F-150 driven by Brent Arens, 48, of Norfolk, failed to stop at the intersection and was struck by a gray Ford F-150 traveling south on Hwy 81. The collision caused the red F-150 to flip onto its top and end up in a ditch. Arens had to be extricated by rescue personnel and was airlifted to a hospital. His condition is reported as stable.

The driver of the gray F-150, identified as a 17-year-old male from Pierce, admitted to officials that he had been drinking before the accident and was not wearing his seatbelt. A test confirmed that his BAC was above the legal limit. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that both vehicles are total losses. The incident remains under investigation.

Madison County’s Growing Car Accident Problem

Madison County is currently grappling with an alarming rise in automobile accidents, prompting concerns among local officials regarding road safety. Recent reports indicate that traffic incidents have increased by about 10% over the last few years, with over 2,300 accidents occurring in 2022 alone. Among these, more than 350 resulted in serious injuries, leading community leaders to advocate for better safety protocols and enhanced public awareness campaigns.

One of the contributors to this surge in crashes is distracted driving, a prevalent issue throughout the nation. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration highlights that distraction, especially from mobile devices, accounts for a significant portion of traffic incidents. Residents are urged to remain attentive while driving and minimize distractions to help reduce the likelihood of accidents.

For those involved in car accidents, understanding the process of pursuing a personal injury claim can be daunting. A key question often arises: “What is the timeline for filing a personal injury claim after an accident?” Typically, victims have a period ranging from two to three years from the date of the incident to file a claim, but this can vary based on state laws.

Seeking legal guidance is essential for victims and their families to navigate the complex legal process and pursue rightful compensation.
