Omaha, NE (June 16, 2025) – On Monday, June 16, police confirmed the death of a 12-year-old boy. He died from the injuries he had suffered in a crash that happened last week in North Omaha.
The crash took place just before 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 12, at the intersection of 60th Street and Ames Avenue. Omaha Police say a pickup truck was traveling east when it collided with a car turning south from the westbound lanes.
The boy was inside one of the vehicles and was critically injured in the crash. Emergency crews began CPR at the scene and rushed him to the hospital. Despite medical efforts, he passed away on Monday, June 16. Both drivers involved suffered only minor injuries, according to the Omaha Police Department.
Authorities have not released the name of the child. The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and officials are asking anyone with information to contact Omaha Crime Stoppers.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the child’s loved ones and hope for healing for everyone impacted by this tragic event.
Fatal Car Crashes in Omaha
Fatal crashes involving young passengers are among the most heartbreaking tragedies on Nebraska roads. In Omaha, busy intersections like 60th St and Ames Ave see a high volume of traffic each day, increasing the risk for serious collisions. Unfortunately, when vehicles collide, the most vulnerable passengers, often children, are at the greatest risk for critical injuries.
When families face the unthinkable loss of a child due to a traffic accident, the impact is devastating. Along with grief, parents may struggle with mounting medical bills, funeral expenses, and a deep sense of injustice. In some cases, determining liability can be difficult, especially at intersections where driver decisions happen in seconds.
These kinds of crashes can occur for many reasons—failing to yield, speeding through a turn, or misjudging the distance between vehicles. While drivers often walk away with minor injuries, passengers in the back seat may bear the worst of the crash.
In Nebraska, families affected by fatal crashes have the right to seek compensation through a wrongful death claim. A car accident attorney can help by investigating the crash, gathering reports, speaking to witnesses, and determining what went wrong. This kind of support not only helps hold responsible parties accountable but also provides grieving families with some financial relief and answers during an incredibly difficult time.
