Fatal Car Accidents in Nebraska

Omaha, NE – Woman Killed in Crash on West Center RdTraffic accidents in Nebraska result in hundreds of fatalities every year. In many cases, crashes are caused by driver errors such as speeding, failing to yield, or distracted driving. Collisions involving vehicles veering off the road can be particularly dangerous, especially when they result in crashes with stationary objects like poles or traffic signals.

Understanding how accidents impact victims and their families is important. Below are some common causes of crashes:

  • Sideswipe Collisions – These accidents happen when two vehicles traveling in the same direction make contact. They are often caused by improper lane changes, distracted driving, or failure to check blind spots. While some sideswipe accidents result in minor damage, others can lead to loss of control, causing more serious crashes.
  • Roadway Departures – When a vehicle veers off the road, the risk of severe injury increases significantly. Drivers may overcorrect or collide with fixed objects, which can lead to devastating consequences. Factors such as speeding, distraction, or slippery road conditions can contribute to these incidents.
  • Impact with Fixed Objects – Crashes involving utility poles, traffic signals, and guardrails often result in severe injuries. These crashes can be particularly dangerous at high speeds, as the force of impact is absorbed by the vehicle and its occupants.
  • Driver Distraction – Looking away from the road, even for a few seconds, can cause a crash. Whether it’s using a phone, adjusting the radio, or talking to passengers, distractions are a major factor in accidents across Nebraska.
